The 3rd Wah Yan International Conference (Hong Kong, 1992) –
“The Wah Yan Spirit”
Background (Wah Yan Spirit Around The World)
Wah Yan Goes International
The idea sparked off when three wisemen –
Raymond Yu, Mason Loh, and Philip Ching –
had a cup of coffee at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel
after a council meeting of the Hong Kong association in 1986.
Mason, an active member with the Vancouver association,
the oldest overseas association, was on vacation in Hong Kong then.
Among other things, they talked about the possibility
for Vancouver to host the visit by a Student Ambassador
to be selected from among the students in Wah Yan
as a means in strengthening the relationship among the associations.
The Student Ambassador Programme
With the generous support of the Past Presidents of the Hong Kong association
and the warm hospitality of the Wahyanites in Vancouver,
two ambassadors, instead of one,
spent an enjoyable week in Vancouver
during the Easter holidays in 1987.
Wah Yan Kowloon joined the programme in 1991.

The Biennial International Conference
The successful launching of the Student Ambassador Programme in 1987
had encouraged Philip and Mason
to organize the first international conference
for all Wah Yan past students' associations local and overseas
during the Christmas holidays in 1988
with both the Hong Kong and the Kowloon associations as joint organizers.
It has since become an on-going biennial event.
