Spousal Activities

The following is a brief description of the spousal activities that will be held on June 29 and 30. Transportation will be arranged.

1. June 29, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m
Touring and shopping at the St. Lawrence Market & Queen’s Quay
.

St. Lawrence Market is one of Toronto’s oldest landmarks. It provides the finest and freshest produce, meats, cheese, seafood and baked goods available. You can experience the international diversity that makes the St. Lawrence Market famous. The Saturday Farmers Market in the North Hall, market carts are piled high with a vast array of crafts and specialty items. This is one of a kind, unique market place with an eye opening experience. Departing from St. Lawrence Market, you will be able to enjoy shopping and touring the Queen’s Quay Terminal with 30 specialty stores. There are offices, restaurants, galleries and premier dance theatre all on the waterfront. It is an exciting shopping experience located in the heart of Toronto’s Harbourfront district. There is a rich diversity of jewellery, home accessories, toys, fashion, galleries, music boxes and special gifts for every occasion. If you are already tired and ready for lunch, you can try the Chinese Pink Pearl Restaurant or one of the many diverse food services available at the terminal. 2. June 30, 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Dim Sum Demonstration by Lai Wah Heen

You will be able to enjoy watching the hands on makings of Chinese dim sum. The demonstration is presented by the hotel staff with a special room arranged for this occasion. It is nothing like the kitchen, the demo will be conducted at the Victoria Room providing you with comfort yet close enough to see the details of how dim sum are being made.

After the Dim Sum Demo, there are three different choices for the spouses:

A) Bloor/Yorkville tour and shopping
B) ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) (admission Adult $16.50, student & seniors $12, children $5, additional charges applies to special exhibition)
C) Bata Shoe Museum (admission $4 for student, $6 for adult)

Bloor/Yorkville:

It’s in the heart of the city, Toronto’s most fashionable shopping area. Over 300 shops and home to some of the biggest names in the fashion and retail world – Chanel, Tiffany & Co. , Gianni Versace, Gap, Marc Cain, Prada, and many many more. The area is also home to the crème de la crème of Canadian retail icons such a Harry Rosen, Holt Renfrew, Club Monaco, David’s Footwear, Roots, MAC, Wm. Ashley China and hundreds of unique boutiques that you will find nowhere else. Bloor-Yorkville is a shopper’s paradise. Unlike Harbourfront, each has its unique distinct attractions and shops.

ROM:

Canada’s largest museum, in the heart of downtown Toronto. It has over 5 million objects, and over 40 galleries. During this time, there will be a new exhibition ‘Images of Salvation’ masterpieces from the Vatican and other Italian Collections. Over 100 artefacts from the Vatican Museums, the Italian Ecclesiastical Museums and other private Italian collections. Extraordinary paintings, sculptures and liturgical objects, including works by some of the Western World’s greatest artists, will be seen for the first time outside Italy at the ROM, the only venue in the world to host this spectacular exhibition. Bata Shoe Museum:

Over 10,000 shoes are housed in this award winning 5 storey structure. Artefacts on exhibit range from Chinese bound foot shoes and ancient Egyptian sandals to chestnut crushing clogs and Elton John’s platforms. The ‘All About Shoes’ is a fascinating look through 4500 years of footwear, its evolution, uses over time, methods and materials of manufacture and its place in our lives and in our imaginations. Comprehensive collection of footwear are ancient funerary sandals, Chinese silk shoes, haute couture pumps and an animated display of celebrity shoes found in the ‘Star Turns’ mini-theatre. Transportation will be provided. Since advanced planning is required, it will be on a first-come-first-served basis with preference given to those who have registered in advance.
